Showing Standard Schnauzers has now been a passionate hobby for almost 20 years, with success at the Royal Shows and many Australian Champion titled dogs and bitches. We started out with Salt & Pepper and Black Standards, but due to the desire to keep this activity at a level where our dogs are also just our family pets, it was necessary to limit numbers and decide on one or the other colour. In Europe the two colours are distinct breeds, and a decision was made to specialise in Black Only Standard Schnauzers.
We needed European genetics, and were able to import the wonderful dog "Ozzie" - CH BORN TO OZ GRAND CALVERA (imp CzRep), who has produced a number of Klabauter litters. He comes from illustrious bloodlines:

Importing this dog and frozen semen from various stud-dogs to utilise the best in European black genetics has led to a steady improvement in our showdogs. We are immensely grateful to Grand Calvera Kennels from the Czech Republic for making those first steps possible. We will continue to work with new bloodlines from Europe, and have met some of our frozen semen sires on a visit to the World Dog Show in Helsinki in 2014, where Ozzie's half sister took out World Winner 2014.
Although it is time-consuming, costly and frequently unsuccessful, we will continue to utilise frozen semen for most breedings to access the best bloodlines available in Europe. As a result, we only have 1 or 2 litters a year from which to select new showdogs. We had successful matings of Ch Klabauter Kenya (AI) to Multi European Champion Djarfur Noir vom Schwarzen Opal pictured below, producing the S Litter, the U-Litter sired by Multi Champion RESPECT od DALAJSKÉHO POTOKA and the W-Litter by Totem Otisboanergos Grand Calvera. Breeding Goals
Healthy, happy and good looking!
From almost every litter we breed we retain a puppy for ourselves to go into the showring, often to replace a female that can head into a well earned retirement. We want to see them have long and healthy lives, and this means that breeding healthy dogs is the first and most important goal we have.
The Standard Schnauzer is a very robust breed and has no hereditary health issues that can not be dealt with by a good breeding program. We undertake the available DNA testing in this regard to ensure our stock are not affected. Please read our Health Information page for more.
The second most important thing in a companion animal is its temperament, well before looks. We have over the last 10 years paid great attention to temperament, and now have dogs that are very clever and are happy to participate in any activity on offer, but are generally not very high energy dogs. This makes them very suitable as family pets living in a suburban setting, and many of our puppies have gone to families with small children.
Where possible, we will try to meet the future sires from Europe we plan to use 'in person' so that we can see whether their temperaments will suit our ideals.
We are on a quest to constantly improve conformation, coats and movement in our dogs for the showring. We have been very lucky to have the help of Grand Calvera kennels in the Czech republic, who has produced World Dog Show winners and sent us the best available bloodlines.
We went on a couple of 'reconnaissance' mission to Europe, the World Dog Show in Helsinki in 2014 and Eurodog 2019 to see for ourselves. We learnt lots, critically viewing so many dogs during judging. We have just imported new frozen semen and hope to use it in the near future.
